Update

Bad Credit? No Problem!
version 2.0 is out on Steam.

The biggest update yet, free if you own the game. A story, a whole office computer and a lot more paperwork.

Bad Credit? No Problem! is a cozy pixel-art desk job. You're the new Title Loan Agent at Title 4 Cash, a small title-loan shop in 2016. Customers hand you a car title, a loan request and whatever today's rules ask for. You check the papers, then approve or decline. Between customers you can slack off on a clunky green-screen office PC.

Version 2.0 is live on Steam today as a soft launch. It's free for everyone who already owns the game, and it's the biggest update the game has ever had. Some parts still wear a BETA tag while we keep tuning them. If something looks off, tell us on Discord.

Which version is which?

  • PC (Steam): version 2.0. Windows, Mac, Linux and Steam Deck.
  • iPhone and iPad: version 1.1. 2.0 comes to iPhone and iPad later.
  • Still want 1.1 on PC? It stays on Steam as an opt-in branch called legacy, with your 1.1 save just as you left it.

What carries over

Your bank, your Scrapbook (where your stickers and keepsakes live), your purchases and your agent (the one you play) all come with you. A run in progress doesn't, so you'll start a fresh shift. Sorry about that. Press Clock In and we'll see you at the desk.

New here? You check customers' papers, catch the fakes, and slack off on the office PC between customers. Everything below is new in 2.0.

Highlights

  • Career, the main game, now has a story and an ending. Career is the long job you unlock by passing Probation, the short starter job where you get 14 days to get hired. It now runs 45 workdays to a final review at your desk, with three endings to find. A big chain wants to buy the shop, and the Boss, who owns the place, has opinions.
  • Customers come back with new trouble. Gary is saving for a taco truck. Walt is on a road trip. Twin plumbers are both named Dale, and one of them is lying. What you decide changes what happens next.
  • The office PC is a whole computer. It runs Penguix 3.1, a green-screen operating system IT installed because it was free. It has e-mail, a web browser, a paint program, an IT Help Desk and Vapor, the PC's own game store and launcher.
  • New PC games on Vapor: Snake, Loansweeper, Paper Stack, Loot Rollers, Repo Run and Loan Shark Solitaire, plus GORILLAS.BOOM from 1.1 and a new game for those who survive Fright Night. Each one has its own title screen and comes from one of the little indie studios that live inside the game.
  • Fright Night Files, the Halloween night shift, now has its own story and more scares. It's still cozy, never gory.
  • A red marker. Draw on almost any paper on your desk. Circle a field to flag it.
  • Your look and your office. A photo booth wardrobe with lots of colours, new hats and glasses, and decor to set out in the office.
  • Case Files. The office filing cabinet shows exactly why the Boss wrote you up.
  • Clock In. A wall of time cards, one per mode, and every mode keeps its own run. Special Shifts are limited runs; the first is Fright Night Files.
  • 34 achievements, with a proper Achievements screen.
  • Ten languages (BETA).

The office through the year (Career)

  • Holidays at the office: a jack-o'-lantern and paper bats on Halloween, a potluck and a little turkey at Thanksgiving, an inbox full of doorbusters on Black Friday, and garlands, a tree and Secret Santa in December.
  • Vapor's leaderboards each have their own regulars.

New modes and the Clock In screen

  • Clock In replaces New. It's a wall of time cards, one for each way to work: Probation, Career and Special Shifts. Click one and the office time clock stamps you IN.
  • Every mode keeps its own run. Play a Special Shift in the middle of a Career and your Career goes ON HOLD, wallet and all. Starting a mode over means signing a letter of resignation first.
  • The long job (Career) unlocks when you pass Probation. It used to be an endless mode. It wears a BETA tag on Clock In while we keep tuning it.
  • Probation is friendlier. Visitors who drop by no longer use up your workday, and passing earns a green HIRED stamp.
  • The Employee File is your agent's personnel folder: your ID badge, every Career and how it ended, and personal bests.
  • A new pause screen and a time clock that goes clack-CHUNK.

Career: story, regulars and the final review

  • Returning customers: Gary, a line cook with a taco truck dream; Walt, a widower driving Route 66; the Pruitt twins, both named Dale; Doc Emmett, an inventor with a very strange car; and Karen, who always wants your manager. Karen even shares your office for a day.
  • Old faces write back to you on Vapor.
  • A big chain wants to buy the shop. You're asked to pick a side, and the office changes with your answer.
  • The Year-End Review. Career ends on Friday, December 23, after 45 workdays, with a final review at your desk and three endings. We won't say more.
  • Bribes. Some customers slide cash across the desk. Take it and you keep the cash, but you can't turn them down. Leave it, decline fairly and get a $25 honesty bonus.
  • New rules and memos. Workdays are weekdays. The Boss sends a memo each month with one extra rule. New paperwork shows up as Career goes on, like pay stubs and vehicle registrations.
  • Watchful Eye is a program for the office PC that taps into the shop's security cameras, including the parking lot. Spot a car that doesn't match its title, flag it, decline, and that decision pays double.

The desk and paperwork

  • Case Files: every case you decide is filed with its papers, with the Boss's red circles on whatever broke each rule.
  • Wrong reasons, no pay. Decline for the wrong reasons and you get no pay, even when declining was right.
  • "I want to speak to your manager." Customers who wait too long may demand it.
  • Fast-forward (1x, 2x, 3x) speeds up only the parts you've seen a hundred times.

The office PC: Penguix, Vapor, e-mail and games

  • Programs: E-mail with a Spam Blaster, a car value guide, Bank, Penguix Paint, Notepad, a Calculator, a command shell, Virus-B-Gone, the Recycle Bin and a Pictures folder.
  • IT Help Desk: file tickets, call IT for the hold music, or wait for a visit.
  • NetScoop Navigator is the office web browser, home of Threadz (a clothes shop) and Desk Depot (a decor shop). Binary Palace is the PC's app store.
  • Vapor has a Store, a Library, friends, chats, profiles and its own pretend achievements.
  • The games: Snake, Loansweeper (open the good loans, avoid the bad ones), Paper Stack, Loot Rollers (a push-your-luck dice heist), Repo Run (a tow-truck arcade game), Loan Shark Solitaire and GORILLAS.BOOM, plus one more for those who survive Fright Night.
  • Screen themes: Amber, Ice and, in October, Haunted. Classic Green is free.

Your agent and the office

  • The ID photo booth: ten skin tones, sixteen hair colours, twenty clothes colours, hats, glasses, 15 new hairstyles and 10 new outfits.
  • Threadz sells fancy hats and jackets, plus the Kindness Sweater (customers wait longer) and the Power Tie (the occasional tip).
  • Decorate with the Motivational Poster, the Lava Lamp and the Fish Tank, where Goldie the goldfish lives.
  • The Scrapbook holds keepsakes, stickers, a Fright Night page and a Desk Drawer page.

Fright Night Files

  • A Special Shift with five nights to Halloween, costume week (vampires, mummies and werewolves, and some aren't wearing costumes), nightly e-mails from a mysterious night-shift worker, and a new Vapor game for those who survive.
  • Nothing gory, and nothing that changes what you need to decide.

Achievements

  • 34 achievements, 19 of them new, three hidden, on a real Achievements screen under Options. Anything your old save already proves is marked earned quietly.

Steam

  • Windows, macOS, Linux and Steam Deck. The Deck starts fullscreen at 1280x800 and opens Steam's on-screen keyboard when you type.
  • Steam achievements and Steam Cloud, across your computers and Steam Deck.
  • A basic gamepad cursor: either stick moves a pointer, A clicks, B backs out and Menu pauses.
  • Desktop comforts: Escape closes windows or pauses, Alt+Enter toggles fullscreen, and the Steam overlay pauses your day.

Playing 1.1 again (the legacy branch)

  • In your Steam Library, right-click Bad Credit? No Problem!, choose Properties, then Betas, and pick legacy. To come back to 2.0, pick None.
  • 1.1 and 2.0 keep separate saves, and both sync with Steam Cloud. 2.0 brings over your 1.1 progress once, the first time you start it.
  • 1.1 is Windows only.

Languages (BETA)

  • Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Russian, Polish, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Korean. Pick one in Options. Names like Title 4 Cash, Penguix and Vapor stay in English. Spotted a mistake? Tell us on Discord.

Accessibility and comfort

  • Screen Effects: Full or Reduced (turns off shake and lightning flashes). Date format, game speed, and separate music and effects volume. Bigger, easier-to-read text.

Fixes

  • The game saves after every applicant. Windows on the office PC always come to the front. Many overlapping labels are tidied. The office phone no longer rings just before someone walks in.

Under the hood

  • A new save system that keeps your progress safe and leaves your 1.1 save untouched. The game no longer sends usage statistics or crash reports.
