Privacy Policy.

The short version. Our games don't need an account, and they don't show ads. We don't sell your data and we don't track you across apps or websites. Your progress is saved on your own device. A game sends us something only when you choose "Send report" after a crash. If you write to us through the website or by email, we get what you wrote.

Who we are

Foorbytes is a one-person indie game studio run by Rob. This policy covers our games (including Of Dice and Minions and Bad Credit? No Problem!) and our website, foorbytes.com. Questions, requests and complaints about privacy go to foorbits@icloud.com.

What our games keep on your device

Of Dice and Minions has no account system. It saves your progress (Gold, unlocked minions, run history, settings such as language and display options, achievements progress, and an unfinished run) in files on your own device. We don't receive these files. The game also writes local log files for troubleshooting; we only ever see a cleaned excerpt of one if you choose to send a crash report (see below).

Steam (PC versions)

  • Steam Cloud. If Steam Cloud is turned on for your Steam account, the Steam client copies the game's save files to Valve's servers so your progress follows you between computers. Valve runs that sync. The game itself does not upload your saves, and we don't read them.
  • Achievements and stats. The game tells Steam when you earn an achievement or advance a tracked stat. To do that it uses your Steam ID and display name, which stay on your PC. We don't collect them. Steam's own handling is covered by Valve's privacy policy.
  • Links. Links to Steam pages appear only in the Steam versions of our games.

Apple platforms (iPhone and iPad)

  • Purchases. If a game offers in-app purchases, Apple handles them. We never see your payment details, name or Apple ID. Apple only tells the app which purchases you own.
  • Game Center and iCloud. If a game uses Game Center (for example for achievements) or iCloud (for example to sync a save), Apple stores and handles that data under its privacy policy. We don't receive your Apple ID or name. Not every game uses these.
  • App Store reports. Apple may give us totals about downloads, usage and crashes through App Store Connect, from people who chose to share that with developers. These are summaries, not records of individuals.
  • Community link. On iOS the community and help link opens our Discord server (https://discord.gg/vkA5VkzYuy). The iOS version has no Steam links.

Crash reports (optional, off unless you say yes)

If Of Dice and Minions closed unexpectedly last time, the next time you reach the title screen it asks whether to send a crash report. Nothing is sent unless you choose "Send report." Closing or refusing the window sends nothing. There is no setting that sends reports automatically, and the game remembers which crashes it already asked about so it doesn't ask twice.

What a report contains:

  • the game version, and whether it is the demo or the full game
  • your operating system name and version
  • your processor model and total memory
  • your graphics card name, maker, driver and graphics API
  • window mode, screen resolution and refresh rate
  • your system language setting
  • internal start-up counters (how many times the game has restarted, and a safe-mode level)
  • the stage where the game closed (start-up, title screen or battle) and when that session started
  • an excerpt of the game's log from the crashed session: at most 200 lines and 32 KB

What it does not contain: your save files, your name, your email, your Steam or Apple account details, a device or advertising ID, or any user ID. We do not add your IP address to the report. Before sending, the game cleans the log excerpt: it drops lines mentioning account names or IDs, tokens, passwords and keys, replaces your computer user name in file paths, and blanks out web addresses, email addresses and IP addresses.

Where it goes. The report is sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to Sentry, a crash-reporting service, in its US data center. We use it only to find and fix bugs. Sentry keeps error reports for 30 to 90 days depending on its plan, then deletes them. As with any internet connection, the receiving server can see the network address your request came from; we don't ask Sentry to keep it for us and we don't use it. Because a report has no name or ID attached, we can't look up "your" report afterward; it simply expires.

Our website

  • Contact form. If you use the form on foorbytes.com, we receive and store your name, email address, the topic you picked, your message, the page you were on, and the time. We use it only to reply to you. It is stored in the database of our website host (see below).
  • Email. If you write to foorbits@icloud.com, your email sits in Apple's iCloud Mail. We keep it as long as we need it to help you.
  • No analytics, ads or tracking. The website has no analytics, no advertising and no tracking scripts, and we don't set cookies of our own. Our hosting provider and a few embedded services may still see ordinary technical information, such as your IP address and browser type, when you load a page (below).
  • Embedded and linked services. Pages load images and files from GitHub. Some pages embed YouTube videos; YouTube (Google) may set cookies and see your IP address when a video loads or plays. Links to Steam, the App Store, Discord, YouTube, TikTok, X, Instagram and Facebook take you to services with their own privacy policies.
  • Hosting. The site runs on OpenAI's ChatGPT Sites platform, which runs the servers and may keep ordinary operating logs.

Other Foorbytes games

Bad Credit? No Problem! is sold on Steam and on the iOS App Store. It has no account system and shows no ads.

  • On your device. It saves your progress, settings and the agent name and look you choose in files on your own device. We don't receive these files.
  • Cloud saves. On Steam, Steam Cloud can copy that save to Valve's servers; on iPhone and iPad, iCloud can sync it through Apple. Valve and Apple run those syncs; we don't read your saves.
  • Achievements and scores. On Steam it reports achievements and stats to Steam. On iPhone and iPad it uses Game Center for achievements and leaderboards, so your Game Center nickname and scores can appear on those leaderboards. Apple and Valve handle that data; we don't collect your Apple ID or Steam ID.
  • Purchases. On iPhone and iPad, in-app purchases are handled by Apple. The Steam version has no in-game store.
  • Analytics and crash reports. From version 2.0, Bad Credit? No Problem! sends no analytics or crash reports. Earlier versions had the Unity engine's automatic usage analytics and crash diagnostics switched on, which sent basic session and crash data, not linked to your name or account, to Unity Technologies.
  • Links. The community link opens our Discord server in your browser.

If you have a question about what any specific Foorbytes game does with data, email us and we'll tell you.

What we don't do

  • We don't show ads in our games.
  • We don't sell your personal data or share it for advertising.
  • We don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
  • We don't build advertising profiles.

Services we rely on

Children

Our games and website are not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us something, email us and we'll delete it.

Keeping and deleting data

Game progress stays on your device and (if you use them) with Steam Cloud or iCloud; to delete it, remove the game and its saves, or use the options those services give you. Contact-form messages and emails stay only as long as we need them to help you, and we delete them when you ask. Crash reports expire at Sentry as described above.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. If you are in the EU, UK, California or another place with privacy laws, you have these rights by law, and you can also withdraw consent (for crash reports, simply don't choose "Send report"). Email foorbits@icloud.com, mention the email address you used, and we will reply within 30 days. We don't sell personal information and we don't discriminate against anyone for making a request. If you aren't satisfied with our answer, you can contact your local data protection authority.

We are based in the United States, and the services above may process data there. Contact-form and email data may therefore be handled in the US.

Changes

If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top of this page. If the change is significant, we'll say so on the Foorbytes news page.
